Highbury House has been reimagined as a home for connection, designed to seamlessly blend social and private spaces. Through the clever use of sliding partitions, doors, and screens, the house transforms effortlessly from a tranquil retreat to a vibrant social hub, perfect for welcoming friends and family.

The redesign achieves cohesiveness through bespoke joinery and finishes. Traditional framed wall panels are paired with fluted panels, adding a contemporary texture, while antique brass trims and handles elevate the detailing. Restored original features such as stained-glass windows, reinstated mouldings, and a modern fireplace ensure the home’s character remains deeply rooted in its history.

One of the most striking features is the glass infill connecting the ground floor to the extended basement. This double-height void frames a sleek new staircase that descends from the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas to the central conversation pit in the basement. Glass partitions in the gym flood the lower floor with natural light, while a cinema room with velvet-lined walls offers a luxurious retreat. The integration of the kitchen and basement creates a unified family space, enhanced by natural daylight.

On the top floor, a hidden sliding door reveals a beautifully crafted spiral staircase leading to a serene loft space. Designed as a hangout or quiet area, the timber veneer and recessed handrail of the spiral stair provide a joyful, sculptural connection to the loft.
Paul Archer Design has masterfully transformed Highbury House into a welcoming, modern home that balances tradition and innovation. This thoughtfully designed residence reflects the owners’ vision of a home that fosters both connection and comfort.
